Remember When I Saved the Dreaded Pictures

Posted by db on Sep 16, 2009 in Life, Photography

Thanks Photoshop, I owe you one.

In reference to my recent post, where I claimed all of my pictures were ruined because of some kind of wormy-ish thing in the corner, I have to admit that I ‘saved’ a picture or two.

Here they are:

Click for bigs.

Click for bigs.

Click for bigs 2, I dare you

Click for bigs 2, I dare you

So Mr/s. Photoshop, this Iced Tea is for you.
And to you, world, I can still take pictures.

Technical note: These pictures are HDRs…. aka 5-9 photos taken at different light levels, seperated by an f-stop or so, and then combined to make one photo.

Remember?

Posted by db on Sep 14, 2009 in Photography

Gather ’round! A lesson for all!

Remember when I took a whole bunch of (potentially) sweet pictures yesterday? Remember how I was really stupid and didn’t check my lens to make sure it was clean? Remember how it has that weird, potentially wormy thing, all up in there?

Good one Dylan. Nothing like adding more work for yourself.

ugh.

Quickles

Quickles |kwik-lz|
Noun

A quick post to show readers that blogger db is still alive. It can provide short insight into what is to come.
Woah! I can’t go to bed until I post a quickles.

________

So with that, I am indeed alive. I’ve got a lot to cover. I feel as though I should wrap up my trip, even though it’s been as long as it has. I feel as though I should post some pictures, because it’s been as long as it has.

First things first (click on picture for more from shoot):

Tomorrow (today, in actuality) I will post again with a little hooblaw about the trip, and indulge further into recent livings.

Tomorrow I’m starting my previously outlined GTD (Getting Things Done). So as soon as I rise, I’ll be hammering away at my notebook.. maybe even in my precious Moleskine that I haven’t used yet.

As previously promised, I’ll let you know how it goes, but for now enjoy Ms. Tessier and the awesome product of Studio-28.ca

Take My Picture

Posted by db on Apr 9, 2009 in A Year in Photos, Photography

Yah, yah, thats a good picture

Yah, yah, that's a good picture

April 9th Musing

I was out shooting real estate, waiting for a cloud break.
Man crossed the road and spoke in a rushed tone – “Take a picture of me.” Being caught of guard, I asked him to repeat, this time ready for the same hurried murmur of “take a picture of me.”

As he stood still as a statue, I snapped one quick shot whereby he inquired, “Can I see it?”

“Yah, yah, that’s a good shot. That’s good.”

And that’s all the acknowledgement I need. He left, I see him around the block 5 minutes later, where he had no recolation of what just happened moments before.

Fair enough. Make shit happen and move on.

Don’t Be Fooled

Posted by db on Mar 12, 2009 in Life, Photography

Not All Is Lost

Just when you think something is one way, it’s not.

Example: I wore shorts yesterday
Today mukluks, a toque, and a parka would fall short of keeping a man warm.

Example: You may think I’m dead
I’m not. I just haven’t written a post in a while. My bad.

Anywho, the world hasn’t stopped moving, but I’ll soon be caught up. I’ll be living at the Men’s CIS finals this weekend at Scotiabank Place. Time for Carleton U to take the trophy home again – a year without it was long enough.

Have a taste of this little Studio-28 offering.

Life V. 1

Posted by db on Jan 31, 2009 in A Year in Photos

Sharing the love for night shots

While I haven’t posted in a while, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I haven’t thought about it nor that I don’t intend to continue posting regularly. Since returning from the Bahamas, I’ve spent the vast majority of my time playing “catch-up” with my classes and trying to get through all of the 2200+ pictures that Steve and I took.

So to recap the new years resolutions a month in into battle, I’d like to think that I’ve mainly stayed on course.
For photography, I have pretty much taken a picture a day (or an average of over 6 if we spread my total count for this year over 365 days), and despite my return from the Bahamas, I have been a regular poster. I’ve also started to rethink my strategy on posting / writing everyday, as well. I started to think that if I just go and force myself to post everyday, chances are the quality of my posts will decrease. So, in that case, I’m going to attempt to post as frequent as possible while posting only quality writings and quality pictures!

On top of that, I’ve also decided to add 2 more things to the Super Cool List of Things To Do in 2009. I want to design a T-shirt of some sort, and get it custom printed somewhere. I honestly haven’t looked too far into it, but maybe if I can gather up a group of interestee’s we could open up some sort of online T’s store. That would prove to be fairly cool!

I also want to write a very detailed explanation of an unbelievably cool game called “Hot-Pooling.”

More on that to come this week.

But for the time being, enjoy the night exposure that steve and I took. It’s got an exposure of over a minute to produce an “evenly-lit” scene, considering it was like 11pm and pitch black out.

Day In the Life

Posted by db on Jan 11, 2009 in A Year in Photos

Ohhh Breakfast!

Ohhh Breakfast!

So, I am rather proud to say that I actually did get outside today! Not only did I go outside, but I actually walked and moved around once I got out there and made a little trip to Bramasole Diner to have a little taste of breakfast. Fantastico!

I also got a haircut (via Ness) and made a video that got most of our day down pat. I’m going to work on that tonight / tomorrow, so if I can find the time I’ll get it posted in the near future. 3 days until I disappear!

Well day 2 of posting. Eat your heart out.

Another panorama that was shot hand held. I was really really surprised at how well they stitched together. I’m normally more tedious with my panoramas and choose to carry around a tripod, but after these last two, I’m going to rethink my strategy.
Check out my last one of an oil rig (where I used a tripod) – click to have a larger looksie.

Click me, click me!

Here’s a link back to my flickr page.

FYI: The way that I’m handling pictures on my blog is letting them be hosted by my account over at flickr and then directly linking to them through wordpress. I’m hoping that this will take the stress off my servers and my hosting cost will remain at pennies/month.
FYI 2: I’m being hosted by nearlyfreespeech.net where the only thing I’m paying for on a regular basis is my MySQL database that backs WordPress.
