Ahh… A New Year

While I’m not one for the typical new years resolution, I am particularly fond of reflecting on the year past and setting a few goals for the 365 days to come.

I think that more than anything, 2008 provided a start to a journey. Photography started a snow ball effect to widen my interest beyond just taking pictures. After producing pictures that I’m proud of, I desired a different way to share them besides Flickr so I began researching to see what it would take to produce one. Through a lot of research, I decided to get a blog on the go and hence you’re reading this (I’ll post later on what my decision. I think the keenness of design naturally evolves for any photographer from the photographic aspect of composing scenes. Eventually, I hope to be WordPress Designer Extraordinaire (not actually) but I do hope to learn a ton and to be able to customize my own templates to suit my individualistic style and desires even further.

Between the great resources and tutorials already provided by the folks over at wordpress and the even better help from the ‘wordpress community’ I’m sure I’ll be able to get something on the go.

Photography

The only way to get better is by doing, and doing I shall! While I believe that the idea of taking quality pictures everyday is somewhat impractical, I don’t believe that posting a picture everyday is impractical. So, I will aim to post a new picture everyday of the year.

On top of that, I obviously want to aim to grow with this whole photography thing with the intents of booking a few gigs. While I don’t have any concrete plans, I do hope to be a part of a couple of weddings and really let my portraiture take off. Sure, I’d love to sell a couple of prints. I’ll take it all. I’ll try and lay down some concrete plans in the next week or so.

Design

Ah, but of course! Surely, I’m going to continue to design and manage this website. As mentioned earlier, I’ll keep questing to become the self-professed extraordinaire of design. I’m going to sketch out a design that I want to have for the site by the end of January and I’ll post it here. I’ll work towards something of the sort over the next year. What do you look for in a great website?

I also want to get together a portfolio and an included website designed exclusively for showing my photos. Chances are, it won’t be powered by wordpress but I’ve got a lot more research to do on that end! On the website I want to have 3 or 4 categories, a simple biography page and some sort of contact page. It’ll be what is similarly found around the web, but hopefully with a spice of db. Bludomain has a plethora of viable options, but the added cost of hosting worries me.

Other than that, I think I’ll let it fly for now. I’m going to give myself a few more days to ponder away at adding more goals, I had a late start.

I’ll also post two pictures for the first two days of the year.
